Nora Attal Shoots Her Latest Campaign For Zara In The Moroccan Desert

Zara’s new campaign features the British-Moroccan model of the moment and channels major desert vibes

It’s already the year of Nora Attal, who is recovering from her tour de force of a fashion month, dominating the catwalks in New York, London, Paris and Milan. No stranger to the fore of major campaigns (Alexander McQueen and Net-a-Porter to name a few), she floored us all yet again yesterday with a series of stunning snaps on her Instagram of her latest appearance, this time for Spanish high-street label Zara.

The campaign for Zara’s spring/summer 2019 collection was shot with the majestic golden dunes of the Sahara Desert as the backdrop, as photographed by Christian MacDonald. The campaign was styled by Karl Templer, who has previously worked with the likes of Alexander Wang and Valentino, with makeup by Laura Parsons and hair by Dutch hairstyling legend Christian Houtenbos: the brains (or clippers, brush and curling iron?) behind some of pop culture’s unforgettable hairstyles (think Grace Jones’ buzz cut).

The British-Moroccan rising star – posing with fellow model Marte Mei van Haaster throughout the campaign – is pictured wearing a chunky striped cardigan with matching flowing palazzo pants and leather gladiator sandals. In one shot, she’s accessorised with a bronze chain-link necklace and stone earrings. In another image, she wears a kaftan-inspired white robe with a sand-coloured sash, fully channeling the desert-chic mood. The hair and makeup look is a natural one – Nora’s hair styled into a windswept up-do.

The colour palette of the collection reflects that of the desert surroundings and prioritises earthy and neutral tones: brown, beige, clay, nude and cream.

The brand is clearly drawing inspiration from the North African nation’s rich heritage in this latest collection, boasting traditional silhouettes and prints for select garments. Last month’s campaign for part of Zara’s spring/summer 2019 collection, captured by Steven Meisel, was also Morocco-inspired and saw the models sporting rope headbands, tunics, slippers and heavy jewellery, against the backdrop of Bedouin-style tents.

Images on Zara’s website tease a further few items in the collection, including loose-fitting, flowing maxi dresses and other one-pieces in lightweight fabrics. The full campaign features models Sara Eirud and Britt Ensink, as well as Nora and Marte, and embraces the free-spirited nature of a desert lifestyle.
