Launched in the 1960s, Parisian restaurant guide Gault&Millau is best known for its extensive dining reviews that include expert insight into the best of the best when it comes to where to eat around the world.
Introduced by journalists Henri Gault and Christian Millau, the guide consists of an in-depth ranking of luxurious dining locations on a scale from 1 to 20. Subject to the score, the restaurant can receive between one to five toques. Each year, Gault&Millau UAE hosts an annual private gala to celebrate and announce awards to the country’s leading chefs, sommeliers, restaurant managers, and restaurateurs.
Here, team Harper’s Bazaar Arabia shares their favourite Gault&Millau restaurants in Dubai, that are a must-visit this Summer…

Olivia Phillips, Editor in Chief: Dinner By Heston Blumenthal
I’ve long been mesmerised by Heston’s Wonkaesque approach to food, obsessively devouring all his TV shows over the years, making the pilgrimage to the famous Fat Duck in Bray, UK and even diligently eating the snail porridge, despite them totally making my skin crawl. I wouldn’t say I was quite a Nicholas Hoult in The Menu-level superfan, but it’s pretty close. Predictably, then, Dinner is now my absolute favourite restaurant in the whole of Dubai – every element of the experience is as fabulous as the last, from the performance of it all, the mind-blowingly knowledgeable staff and head chef Tom, the view from the tables by the window, and – of course – the food. It makes eating so much more fun and, shhh, it’s even better than the original in London.

Natasha Faruque, Managing Editor: Moonrise
Homegrown, channeling nostalgic Middle Eastern flavours, yet elevating them into a fine dining, degustation setting, Moonrise is audacious, inspiring – and truly delicious. The intimate 12-seater setting, perched at the top of luxurious Eden House, ensures everyone has a prime view as Dubai-born-and-bred chef Soleman Haddad celebrates local ingredients like tangy sumac, fusing them with Japanese influences to produce unique plates, adding finishing flourishes in front of diners. Intricate plating and skyline vistas ensure your Instagram-feed will light up too.

Nour Bou Ezz, Fashion Editor: The Artisan Il Ristorante
My favourite is the Artisan Il Ristorante for true Italian cuisine. Their pizzas are the best in town (the truffle pizza is my first option). From the beggining of the experience you feel the authenticity in their delicious balsamic and bread they offre. The atmosphere is very pleasant and the restaurant is not too formal for a catch up with friends. The staff are very experienced and extremely knowledgeable.

For me it’s Mimi Kakushi. From the finest Japanese dishes to the curated cocktail menu, and the 1920’s chic interiors and ambience, it’s the ideal date night spot.

Anahita Ghai, Social Media Editor: Carnival by Tresind
I love their playful and colourful take on authentic Indian cuisine. Along with their on-point presentation and chic interiors, I love their diverse menu, it’s great for people like me who are Vegetarian. Overall, one of my favourite spots in town.
Location: The Buildings by Daman, 312 Al Sa’ada Street, Za’abeel, DIFC
Imogene Legrand, Editorial Assistant: Scalini
Their truffle pasta, prepared tableside in a cheese wheel is incredible. I like that the restaurant has an understated casual vibe while still being an upscale, elegant space. I found it warm and inviting. The service was top notch. The perfect place for a celebration.

Charlotte Williams, Fashion Assistant: Zuma
For a treat, Zuma is my go-to. From their energetic atmosphere to their glamorous crowds, it’s the perfect spot to explore traditional Japanese cuisine with a sophisticated twist. With a menu designed to be shared (I have recently learnt that this is called Izakaya style), it’s the ultimate suggestion for a large group of friends. My absolute favourite is their Japanese sweetcorn with Shiso butter.
