The Emirati astronaut has safely returned back home after 6 months in the International Space Station

On September 18, the UAE welcomed home Emirati astronaut Sultan Al Neyadi after 6 months of experiments and investigations in the International Space Station. The astronaut made his country proud by performing the longest Arab space mission in history and completing a 7 hour spacewalk in April this year.

In Pictures: How The UAE Welcomed Emirati Astronaut Sultan Al Neyadi Home

Sultan Al Neyadi boarded an aircraft from Houston, Texas and made his way to Abu Dhabi with fellow astronauts.

Emerging from the aircraft in Abu Dhabi, Sultan Al Neyadi was greeted by 3 of his children who were all dressed in traditional Emirati attire. The youngest was seen holding the iconic blue astronaut plushie that was captured in many of the astronaut’s photos in space.

Sultan Al Neyadi received a warm welcome at the airport with employees cheering, children waving UAE flags, Emirati men performing the traditional Al Ayyala dance and, friends and family gathered to congratulate and welcome the astronaut.

Sultan Al Neyadi and his children were greeted by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE, and Ruler of Dubai, and His Highness Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE and Ruler of Abu Dhabi.

The astronaut presented a UAE flag to His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. Sultan Al Neyadi had taken this flag with him to space.

Crown Prince of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Maktoum congratulated Sultan Al Neyadi and shared photos of the astronaut engaging in conversation with Vice President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates and Ruler of Dubai His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the President of the United Arab Emirates and Ruler of Abu Dhabi

The world’s tallest tower Burj Khalifa lit up last night in honour of Sultan Al Neyadi, congratulating him on completing a successful journey in space.
