October marks an exciting time for Arab Cinema, with the announcement and release of some of our favourites, and some exciting new projects.
4 New Arabic Releases We Can’t Wait To Watch
Al Rawabi School For Girls, New season
The highly-anticipated announcement of the renewal of this Jordanian drama finally came to Netflix. Season One was adored internationally and translated into several languages. The themes of contemporary female issues through the lens of teenage girls rang true with a large audience and led to the announcement of season two by the end of 2023, giving you more than enough time to make your way through the six episodes of the first season.

Finding Ola, New season
Netflix also announced the second season of this Arabic Netflix series after the huge success of the first. Season One was spotlighted for its compelling exploration of womanhood, family dynamics, and societal challenges. Originating as a sequel to the renowned series Ayza Atgawez, (I Want to Get Married), the show has garnered significant attention for its insightful portrayal of these themes. As viewers delve into this much-anticipated continuation, they can expect what can only be described as a journey with the protagonist, Ola, the complexities of motherhood, life, and relationships against the backdrop of Modern Egypt.

Anbar 6, New season
This Lebanese Drama Series revolves around a group of incarcerated women, offering a unique glimpse into their lives behind bars. Season One explored their experiences within the prison walls, showcasing the intricate dynamics among female inmates and their challenges while having the backbone of Arab Culture and Identity. The complexities of their individual stories make the release of Season Two, set to premier on Shahid October 12th, 2023, all the more exciting as the story unfolds.
Belly of the Whale, New Series
Today, Shahid also announced the release of its new show, Belly of the Whale, captioning this news with “In the underworld it is a complicated web of relations and feuds… Even your own shadow doesn’t secure it!”. The show is set to star Mohamed Faraj, Bassem Samra, Asmaa Abu Al-Azid, Samah Anwar, Essam Omar and Abdul Aziz Makheoun. Faraj also recently succeeded on Shahid’s horror original Room 207 earlier this year. This new project is set to release in November.
