Everyone’s favourite childhood comic book series, the Archie Comics, is getting the Bollywood makeover and we’re preparing ourselves for all the nostalgia that’s going to come our way.
This latest adaptation of the comics is taking viewers on a trip down memory lane, all the way to India, where seven of the most loved characters of the series will reinvent themselves for the big screen.
The movie is slated to come out on Netflix in 2023, and looks to have gotten the 60’s aesthetic down to the T, with a yellow-tinted lens, loads of sweater vests, pinafores, gingham and cropped bomber jackets (honourable mention: slicked back hair with that one totally intentional falling strand of hair) and Betty’s classic ponytail.
Ahead of it’s highly anticipated release, Bazaar Arabia is dishing all the details about this throwback flick.
Who Directed The Archies?
Working in collaboration with Netflix India, the movie is critically acclaimed Bollywood director Zoya Akhtar’s directorial venture. The ace filmmaker is known best for her coming-of-age storytelling with movies like Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, Gully Boy and Dil Dhadakne Do.
Through her production house, Tiger Baby, Zoya has made her place in the world of Indian cinema as someone who creates real, raw characters and places them in a deeply intellectual setting, highlighting the realities of modern Indian society through her art. She is often lauded for her accurate depictions of the richest of the rich – The Indian Elite – and their problems.
Who Is Starring In The Archies?
The cast of the film is made up of several young famous faces who are debuting in the industry with this release. Deemed ‘star kids’ by the Internet sphere, many of the actors come from a lineage of Bollywood royalty and have been in the public eye for a while because of their popular parents.

Who Is The Stylist Of The Archies?
The incredibly iconic wardrobe of the characters is brought to you courtesy of costume designer and celebrity stylist Poornamrita Singh, who clearly knows what shes’s doing. Her impressive repertoire of work includes titles like Gully Boy and Made In Heaven, to name a few, and her expertise is employed regularly by leading brands and titles.
The looks from The Archies are a perfect replication of the 60’s trends, complete with newsboy caps and the old-age colour scheme, the deep magentas and mustard yellows, stripes and checkered prints. Big, flappy collars, sweater vests and whimsical dresses with floral prints, so deeply reminiscent of that time, will also be a recurring sight.
Looks like it will be a deliciously nostalgic visual treat.
When Is The Archies Releasing?
An exact date has not been confirmed by neither the director nor Netflix itself but The Archies will be premiering exclusively on the streaming platform sometime in 2023.
