Embassy Of Italy In Riyadh Hosts Virtual Talk With Marco Piva

In celebration of Italian Design Day 2020 and in collaboration with ArchiNet, the embassy hosted a virtual talk yesterday evening with the Italian architect, moderated by Saudi architect Yazeed Motawa, founder of SpaceStudio

Every year, Italian Design Day aims to celebrate and promote Italian design, which combines aesthetic excellence, creativity and innovation, and has become easily recognisable and widely appreciated around the world.

This year’s theme is ‘Drawing the future | Development, Innovation, Sustainability, Beauty’. One hundred ambassadors of Italian design for 100 cities (professionals such as designers, architects, urban planners, entrepreneurs and teachers) will look at the main elements of this year’s theme during 100 events taking place around the world.

“Design is a powerful tool at our disposal to rebuild our spaces and our communities after the pandemic,” says Ambassador Roberto Cantone. “Italian design stands worldwide for beauty, innovation and sustainability. I am very grateful that, thanks to a very fruitful collaboration with ArchiNet, we have this unique possibility to welcome (virtually) in Riyadh a leading Italian architect and designer like Marco Piva and to engage in a conversation with him on these important topics.”

“We are honoured to have architect Marco Piva as Ambassador of Italian design for Riyadh,” says Cantone. “The current pandemic has showed us very clearly that the way our cities, our workplaces and our homes are designed and the way we inhabit them deeply affects our lives and wellbeing. As we move towards a post-Covid world, there is a need to rethink what keeps us together as human beings.” 

The Embassy of Italy in Riyadh, in collaboration with ArchiNet, will host a virtual talk with Architect Marco Piva to mark the celebrations for the Italian Design Day 2020 on 9 November at 8.00 pm Saudi time (6.00 pm Italian time).
