We Step Aboard Louis Vuitton’s Visionary Journeys Exhibition In Shanghai
We discover the delights and details of Louis Vuitton’s life-sized ship, The Louis, docked in Shanghai to present a unique multi-layered exhibition
No stranger to curating incredible, immersive experiences, Louis Vuitton’s latest homage to arts, culture and legacy is Visionary Journeys – a multifaceted and in-depth exhibition ‘aboard’ The Louis, that explores the House’s heritage through travel, craftsmanship, fashion and innovation. Stroll along Shanghai’s West Nanjing Road and you won’t miss the good ship Louis Vuitton – a vast hull embellished with the House’s iconic monogram housing a two-floor exhibition inside, with different thematic rooms immersing visitors in the history of the House, from its beginnings through to today.

The exhibition opens with a dual timeline tracing the origins of Louis Vuitton, starting
with its craftsmanship and family legacy and on to its connection with the maritime world, from its trunks designed for transatlantic travel to its role in historic regattas, such as the Louis Vuitton Cup. In Voyage, the room explores the poetic, personal and playful dimensions of Louis Vuitton’s historic travel-inspired pieces and patents, while the Perfume room explores the olfactive essence of the House’s heritage.

Other immersive spaces explore Louis Vuitton’s literary lineage, its long-standing affinity
to sport and competition, the evolution of its fashion and leathergoods, as well as the chance to pull back the curtain on how every Louis Vuitton piece is made to last, with workshops and live demonstrations by its artisans highlighting the House’s celebrated savoir-faire.
Perhaps most exciting of all for foodies, Le Café Louis Vuitton Shanghai offers the best of
East-meet-West, with its ‘Shanghai style’ exploring the convergence of European and Chinese influences. Design-led dishes include the iconic Monogram Raviolis crafted as Jiaozis, the Cesar Salad Eclipse, this time paired with a twisted Shanghai Yuja dressing and the Louis Hao, a seabream carpaccio with bergamot sabayon and garden vegetables.

While the Visionary Journey exhibition taps into Louis Vuitton’s legacy and Le Café offers
luxury lunching like never before, it’s The Louis itself that steals the show, putting a new and stylish spin on feeling lost at sea.
