Martin Scorsese has announced he shall attend the 20th edition of the Marrakech Film Festival but not just as a guest…
Martin Scorsese is set to attend the 20th edition of the Marrakech International Film Festival, which shall be hosted from November 24 – December 2, 2023. Not only shall Martin attend the prestigious event, but he shall also be the patron of the Atlas Workshops program, which is centered on aiding individuals in the Middle East and North Africa region with a passion for filmmaking.
The Atlas Program launched in 2018, making this year its 6th edition. Work produced from the program has already been featured earlier this year in major International events such as the Cannes Film Festival hosted in May.
In order to be a part of the program, participants must undergo an application process that involves them working on various different projects. Upon acceptance, the applicants will then have the opportunity to discuss their work with many consultants, who specialise in relevant areas such as scriptwriting, editing, etc. A team of juries appointed will also judge the work produced and decide who wins the cash prizes on offer.
An official press statement released for the Atlas Workshops and Marrakech International Film Festival Martin expressed the iconic creative’s delight in returning, “I am always happy to be returning to my beloved Marrakech Film Festival. When I haven’t been able to attend in person, I’ve always been there in spirit.” He also announced how he has been “entrusted with a precious task: to interact with young filmmakers and help to guide them on their way.”
In the same press statement it was also announced that every year the Atlas Workshops shall have a prominent figure from world cinema hosting it with Martin Scorsese being their first of this new tradition.
