The star footballer posted pictures enjoying the festivities with his Al Hilal teammates

Brazilian football sensation, Neymar Junior joined the Saudi Founding Day celebrations and posted pictures wearing traditional attire. He was seen with the Al Hilal football club team as they marked the occasion.

In one of the pictures, he’s seen taking a selfie with Saudi Arabian teammate Salman Al-Faraj and Al Hilal’s manager Jorge Jesus, all sporting ghutra (headdress) and bisht (a cloak worn over a thobe.)

In 2022, Saudi Arabia officially announced February 22 as a national holiday to celebrate the Saudi Founding Day as per a royal order issued by King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud. The occasion commemorates the founding of the first Saudi state in Arabia.

It is different from the Saudi National Day, which falls on September 23.

Last year, Neymar and French footballer Karim Benzema, who captains Saudi Pro League club Al-Ittihad, wore traditional Saudi clothing to mark the kingdom’s 93rd National Day.

In 2023, Cristiano Ronaldo also celebrated Saudi National Day in cultural attire and was seen performing the traditional sword dance with Al-Nassr FC teammates in a video released by the club. The Portuguese sports icon also participated in Saudi Founding Day festivities last year.

Neymar joined Al Hilal for a reported €90 million last August, signing a two-year contract worth €150 million per year. The star footballer managed only five appearances for Al Hilal before taking a step back for the season due to the injury.
