Nora Al Matrooshi is preparting for an unprecedented expedition to space
Following Emirati astronaut Sultan Al Neyadi’s return to the UAE after successfully completing a spacewalk mission, the Mohammed bin Rashid Space Centre is adding more excursions to their list, expanding our knowledge of the vast universe and placing UAE in the forefront of space travel.
The Crown Prince of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid al Maktoum, met with the Board of Directors at the MBR Space Centre, during which they discussed goals for Emirati space excursions in 2024. Their plans include launching the most advanced satellite in the region, reaching the moon on the “Rashid 2 Explorer” mission and sending two more Emirati astronauts to space.

The two chosen astronauts are Mohammad Al Mulla, and the UAE’s first woman astronaut, Nora Al Matrooshi.
Who is Nora Al Matrooshi, The UAE’s First Female Astronaut To Be Sent Into Space?
A Sharjah local, Nora graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering from the United Arab Emirates University before receiving training from the Vaasa University of Applied Sciences in Finland. In 2021, Nora was selected to train at NASA with a group of 11 candidates worldwide, including fellow Emirati astronaut Mohammed Al-Mulla.
After their training, the two astronauts joined the MBR Space Centre’s second batch of candidates for the UAE Astronaut Programme, where they are being prepared to conduct scientific investigations to aid them in their journey to space. Nora Al Matrooshi’s journey to space in 2024 will provide new horizons of hope and inspiration for aspiring Emirati women astronauts and will be a great leap in the realm of space and scientific discovery.
