She’s often seeing standing alongside her close-knit family on high-profile occasions and the regal pedigree of Princess Iman bint Abdullah of Jordan – the second child and eldest daughter of King Abdullah II and Queen Rania – is abundantly clear.

And, although her appearances to date have been shoulder-to-shoulder with her greatest supporters – her parents – the 25-year-old princess who was born on September  27, 1996, recently had the spotlight firmly focused on her as she announced her engagement to New York-based Jameel Thermiotis.

A sighting of the Princess’ square-cut diamond ring was the first that royal watchers had heard of the courtship, which she kept firmly under wraps. Her Caracas-born fiancé, a partner at a venture capital fund who is of Greek descent, was thrust into the limelight during the official engagement announcement, released by The Royal Hashemite Court and confirmed with a personal note on Queen Rania’s personal Instagram which said: “Congratulations my dearest Iman; your smile has always been a gift of love that I’ve cherished since the day you were born. I wish you and Jameel a life filled with love and laughter!”

Family Ties

The resemblance with her mother is striking, and Iman and the Queen are a formidable duo whenever they attend engagements together, favouring education and local arts and craftsmanship as their philanthropic focus.

Her elder brother, Crown Prince Hussein bin Abdullah, congratulated her on his social media account by saying: “Warmest congratulations to my dear sister Iman and to her fiancé Jameel on their engagement. I wish you a lifetime of happiness together.”

Iman also has two younger siblings, Princess Salma – who is four years her junior, and Prince Hashem, who is nine years younger and was born in 2005.

Despite being part of the royal family, Iman’s personal life has been kept firmly out of the public eye, with Jordan’s first family known to be fiercely private and protective of their children. Fans have mostly been getting sightings of her during official events like Independence Day celebrations, charitable occasions during Ramadan and royal nuptials.

According to Jordanian tradition, despite being the daughter of a monarch, the 25-year-old is not in line for the throne. The Hashemite Court’s rules are that only male Muslim heirs are eligible.

Royal Upbringing

Although she was known for her sports prowess and equestrian abilities during her school years at the International Academy Amman, where she won several awards and was announced to be the best athlete in her graduating class, Princess Iman of Jordan has impeccable academic credentials too.

Close to her brother, Prince Hussein, who is two years her senior, she followed him to his alma mater and picked Georgetown University in Washington D.C. to continue her education. She then switched to New York’s Parsons School of Design to complete her Bachelor’s Degree.
