Bazaar Arabia congratulates the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on its second Founding Day…
In 2022, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud declared a royal decree last year, stating that every year, February 22nd would be celebrating the rich heritage and culture of the Kingdom in form of Saudi Founding Day.

The day honours the founding of the first Saudi state, the Emirate of Diriyah, by Imam Mohammed bin Saudi in February 1727. Making Diriyah – which first was a city-state – an emirate, marked the expansion of his and his family’s territory and influence in central Arabia.

This year, the government has declared a four-day weekend to give Saudis the time to dive in deeper into their country’s history and heritage and encourages to celebrate the occasion by wearing the traditional dress to festivities.

Multiple events to show off traditional crafts, culture, and heritage will be held across the Kingdom. In addition, music and dance performances will take place in several of the larger cities, such as Riyadh, Jeddah, and Dammam. Furthermore, seminars, meetings, and workshops will be hosted from Wednesday to Friday at the King Fahad National Library in order to educate visitors about the cultural heritage of the first Saudi state.

In honour of Saudi Founding Day, the Saudi Style Council shot three vignettes that showcase different points in the traditional marriage rite. “Tribal Suitors: The Battle In The Desert” shows suitors visiting the soon-to-be betrothed bride in the mountains of Riyadh. The “Ghomrah Night” images represent the so-called Henna Night, when the bride-to-be gets decorated in her tribe’s motif by female family members and friends. Finally, the “Arousa” shoot visualises the new life chapter of being a married woman and being even more connected to mother nature and the life surrounding her.
