
Sheikh Khalifa Declares 2019 as the Year of Tolerance
To mark the occasion, the UAE leaders have named the Dubai Water Canal’s iconic bridge the Tolerance Bridge
His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, president of the United Arab Emirates and the eldest son of the late Sheikh Zayed, has declared that 2019 will be officially proclaimed the Year of Tolerance.
“Tolerance is a characteristic of advanced societies and a pre-requisite for cultural empowerment and prosperity,” says Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates, and Ruler of the Emirate of Dubai. “In 2019, we will work to institutionalise this value and lead the intellectual,media & research efforts required to promote tolerance in our region.”

The Year of Tolerance will be an extension of the Year of Zayed, which ran this year.
Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed bin Sultan Al-Nahyan adds, “With Khalifa’s announcement of 2019 as the Year of Tolerance, we recall the great heritage that Sheikh Zayed founded on tolerance and today characterises UAE’s diverse society. The world today needs universal human values to be promoted for the sake of future generations.”
