How To Apply For The Schengen Visa In The UAE

UAE netizens and residents, start planning your European travel bucket list as a new digital visa process will be implemented in the coming years.

The Entry Exit System (EES) and European Travel Information and Authorisation System (ETIAS) are set to be operational by spring 2025, following originally being postponed from 2022.

What is the difference between EES and ETIAS?

With the EES being a new registration system for non-European Union Nationals to the Schengen Area. This system will replace the practice of manually stamping passports and will completely digitalise the visa process on arrival. This represents an exciting step forward in visa documentation. Furthermore, the ETIAS is the precursor that is distinct from a visa. This document will be mandatory for travellers visiting the 30 Member States of the expanded Schengen Area. The automated system is akin to ESTA needed to travel to the US.

The new applications are projected to cost 7 Euros and will last for 3 years. Current prices and length of validity vary, however this development is cheaper than the average application and will last longer, according to Schengenvisainfo.com .

When will the change happen?

The systems are inextricably linked, and their joint launching will be in Spring 2025.
