I had to do a double take on seeing Amal Clooney’s train-backed bustier and trousers look before deciding if or why I like or love it. After paying attention to the details and seeing how this Richard Quinn dress functions, I was blown away. Playful, colourful volume and detachable. Why not? It is the Met Gala after all. One of those moments that we shall never forget. Equally memorable is Gigi Hadid as an ethereal fairy angel in Atelier Versace. The butterfly effect is absolutely stunning. Also other-worldly are Priyanka Chopra in Ralph Lauren’s regal gown complete with golden medieval hood and velvet train, and, at the other end of the historical scale, solange knowles’ futuristic take with this Iris Van Herpen master piece. Showing off their supermodel credentials, Joan Smalls (in Tommy Hilfiger, ahead of her rumoured collaboration with the designer) and Cindy Crawford (in striking Versace) let second-skin silhouettes do the talking. Finally, I am mad about the simplicity of Brooke Shields’ beautifully constructed dress by Zac Posen. Her jewels, hair and make-up are sheer perfection.
