BAZAAR goes behind-the-scenes with Roger Viver's Creative Director to see how the influential designer spends a typical working day in Paris

24 Hours With Roger Vivier's Gherardo Felloni

8:00 A.M. I like to sleep for around eight hours each night, like Sophia Loren. The very first thing I do when I wake up is caress my cat, Mina. If there’s one thing I can’t get through the day without, it’s love, and Mina helps to remind me of that. Over breakfast I’ll scroll through Instagram, and usually have my first coffee of the day. I try to avoid sweets for breakfast as much as possible.

8:30 A.M. I’m not a very sporty person – I get up, I shower, get dressed, put on jewellery from my collection of antique pieces and then run to the office! It usually only takes me around five minutes to decide what to wear each morning. I like to describe my sense of style as eclectic yet polished, and always with a bit of jewellery. I love wearing Davi Paris – they have amazing shirts with beautiful prints. I wear a lot of fine Italian jewellery from Unici and Gioielleria Pennisi, but I particularly cherish my antique jewellery pieces and scarves. I collect mostly 19th century jewellery items from France and Italy, but I also have a collection of antique cameos. Some of the people who have had the greatest influence on my sense of style would be editor Emanuela Pavesi and the great Helmut Newton with his beautifully iconic photographs.

9:00 A.M. I leave the house. I live in a quartier known as ‘La Campagne à Paris,’ or the Countryside in Paris. I take the metro to get to the office, located at Rue Royale in the 8th Arrondissement in the city and it usually takes me around 30 minutes to get there. I like to use this time to check my emails before my work day starts.

10:00 A.M. I arrive at the office and the very first thing I do is talk to my assistant. My personal office is decorated with statues and paintings. I also like to have candles and lots of people around me. Flowers in the office is a must!

11:00 A.M. Work for me always just continues. During the day I’ll have my second or third cup of coffee, a quick lunch and only really get some air at the very end. I love my job and I especially love designing the collections on a daily basis. I travel a lot for work, too. I always go to the Roger Vivier manufacturing factory in Italy and fly around the world for different press events, so I usually travel every two weeks. Even when I’m not working, I still travel. My primary residence is in Paris but when I have a few days off I like to go to my other home, The Lighthouse, in Tuscany at Isola de Giglio. It has a really beautiful garden.

1:00 P.M. For lunch I’ll usually have a salad because it’s light, but I don’t really stick to a particular diet. I eat a lot of different things. My favourite lunch dish is Spaghetti Pomodoro, and I love to eat out at a restaurant called Bread and Roses near my office. I’m a team player at work, so sometimes I’ll eat with my colleagues and other times I’ll eat alone. I don’t usually leave the office before.

7:00 P.M. Quite often I like to spend my evenings at home with a few friends. I enjoy hosting intimate dinners or small lunches where I’ll typically cook something Italian. It’s my favourite cuisine, of course!

9:00 P.M. Work events aside, one of my favourite ways to spend an evening is watching films, particularly film d’auteur and cult operas. I’m also taking operatic singing lessons so sometimes I’ll spend an evening working on that. When I’m spending time in Italy, I like going to the flea markets in Milan. One of my biggest weaknesses when it comes to shopping is spending too much money on antique jewellery and flowers! I’m really passionate about the arts – I have an art collection with works by Nicolas Party, Victor Varsarely and Enrico Castellani, among others. I go to bed around.

12:00 A.M. and I always remember to talk to my cat. I also have a few books in interior design on my bedside table that I’m reading right now. Usually I’ll go through my phone one last time before turning out the lights and then I fall asleep almost instantly!
