Anthony Vaccarello Puts His Eponymous Label On Hold

Anthony Vaccarello, the designer famed for his unapologetically sexy cutout skirts and dresses, was announced as the new creative director at Saint Laurent following the departure of Hedi Slimane, back in April of this year. The fashion world rejoiced at the announcement, given the brand’s recent history of embracing a strong and unrestricted femininity, knowing that Vaccarello was most certainly the man to continue to hold up that mantle.

His eponymous label, which has been worn by the likes of Jennifer Lopez, Iza Goulart, Alessandra Ambrosio and the world’s highest paid model Gisele Bundchen, has gone from strength-to-strength in the eight years since it was born, and many wondered what its fate would be given his prestigious new role. Today, the designer announced that he would be suspending his label to focus on Saint Laurent, with it’s A/W16 collection that is currently in-store, its last for the timebeing. “This adventure has been amazing but I now feel the need to fully focus on this new project,” he said in a statement.

The designer released a teaser of his debut campaign for Saint Laurent in mid-June, but the images gave nothing away about what we can expect to see in his debut collection when it hits the catwalk at Paris Fashion Week on September 27.

He’s undoubtedly got big shoes to fill, though we’re sure he’ll comfortably walk right through this crucial first test.
