So, I’m interviewing Ai-Da the Robot @aidarobot the world’s first ultra-realistic humanoid AI artist in @malloftheemirates on Friday, 11 October from 6:30-8pm as part of #BazaarCapsule @harpersbazaararabia . . I must admit that when I was first approached to do this I was in shock. I’m not so comfortable with the idea of an artist robot. Aida was made based on the same algorithms as those found in humans – the result of researchers writing code at Oxford and Leeds University. Aida is thus the result of humans directing this code. Still, can our creativity/emotions/consciousness be transferred to a machine? Developer and gallerist Aidan Meller wants Ai-Da to spark controversy and force individuals to question the rapid changes technology is having on our everyday lives . According to the hypothetical theory of technological singularity, in the future technological growth will become uncontrollable and irreversible, resulting in unfathomable changes to human civilization. Does Ai-Da forecast the doom that is awaiting us? But there’s more: Ai-Da’s art, which you’ll see this Friday, has already achieved more than $1m in sales. What’s behind that? The missions of this gorgeous brown haired robot appear to be twofold. Hope to see you there!
