The French luxury Maison will be supporting four organisations that provide different types of relief to victims of emergency situations

The fashion and design community continues to stand in stoic support for those affected by the Beirut blast which occurred on August 4 and claimed the lives of over 170 people, while injuring thousands more.

With a local presence and valued long standing partners in Lebanon – some of whom have been deeply impacted like many other families in the country – Chanel is amongst one of the most prominent names in the industry to stand in solidarity with Lebanon, during these difficult times.

The leading luxury powerhouse has donated 700,000 USD (approx. Dhs2.5 million) in support of the Lebanese people, according to a statement from the company.

The donation will be going to the following four organisations, which provide different types of relief and support to victims of the tragedy.

Lebanese Red Cross (200,000 USD)

The Lebanese Red Cross is led by volunteers whose mission is to provide relief to victims of disasters and respond to emergencies.

Amel Association (100,000 USD)

This Lebanese organisation, established in 1975, assists populations affected by humanitarian crises by offering health, psychosocial, child protection and rural development services.

ACTED (200,000 USD)

A French humanitarian organisation established in 1993, ACTED has been working in Lebanon since 2006 and is prioritising housing, food, electricity, COVID-19 protection equipment and mental health services to those most affected.

United Nations Children’s Fund  (UNICEF for 200,000 USD).

In the current crisis, UNICEF is working alongside national authorities and civil society to ensure the continuity of health services, immunisation and provision of essential water services.

Chanel hopes that their contribution will help the relief efforts in a country that is dealing with incredibly difficult circumstances in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Many notable celebrities including George and Amal Clooney, Bella Hadid, Ariana Grande and Madonna have announced they will also be donating to various causes that support Lebanon.
