New York Fashion Week Spring 2022 Calendar: Live Shows Will Make A Return
The Council of Fashion Designers of America released the NYFW calendar for September. Here’s everything you need to know…
After a digitized year of virtual fashion shows, zoom interviews and staticy live streams, it appears the fashion industry is returning to its pre-pandemic runway roots.
In partnership with the IMG Models, the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) released the newly dubbed ‘American Collections Calendar,’ revealing a new strategy to showcase emerging designers not necessarily located in New York City. “New York Fashion Week is back with a diverse lineup representative of the future of American fashion,” said Steven Kolb, CEO of the CFDA.
The not-for-profit’s mission has always been to support American fashion and accessory designers. After such an unprecedented year, now more than ever is the time to focus our attention on the fashion community as a whole. The feeling is mutual for Kolb. “Our fashion industry has come together as we continue to emerge from the pandemic, and a collaborative spirit is paramount to the success of our creative talents,” said Kolb.
The calendar will feature 91 American and international designers beginning with Ulla Johnson on September 8th and ending with Tom Ford on September 12th. A few designers including Christian Siriano will show outside the traditional market week. Carolina Herrera will celebrate with an anniversary collection and a slew of brands will return to New York to show their respective collections including: Thom Browne, Altuzarra, Michael Kors, Gabriela Hearst, Tory Burch, Oscar de la Renta, Jason Wu, Maryam Nassir Zadeh, Sergio Hudson, Coach, Proenza Schouler, Rodarte, Brandon Maxwell, Zero Maria Cornejo, Markarian, Telfar, Khaite, Staud, 3.1 Phillip Lim, Kevan Hall, Victor Glemaud, and Rebecca Minkoff. A few international faces will also be in attendance: Moschino by Jeremy Scott, Peter Dundas of Dundas, and Peter Do.
Special precautions will still be taken throughout the week in accordance with New York State Health Guidelines. The CFDA also plans to mandate a best practices memo to promote health, wellness and diversity for all designers and producers involved.
We can only hope this means a steady climb towards a safe and sustainable fashion week on an international scale.
