The ‘Paint It Green’ initiative aspires to spread awareness about the integrity of conserving mangrove ecosystems through art

What words can’t express, art can. When it comes to talking about environmental matters close to heart, what better love language to pay homage to our planet than through a visual medium?

Mangroves 4 Mankind, a UAE-based environmental initiative for the Abu Dhabi mangroves that focuses on spreading awareness about the preservation of mangrove ecosystems, decided to venture their eco-endeavours into the art domain with their recent announcement of their partnership with Bloomingdale’s.

‘Paint It Green’ is an environmentally focused art collection that will combine the work of local artists with greater themes of preservation. The artworks are inspired by the beauty of the mangroves as they explore the intricacies of the connection between the mangrove ecosystem and humanity.

Curated by Alia Zaal Lootah for the occasion of World Mangrove Day, the collection will include the works of six artists – Fatma Lootah, Robyn Chislett, Ahmad Saeed AlAreef AlDhaheri, Dana Kamber, Meena Al Muheirbi and Ghanim Mubarak – and will be on showcase on the Bloomingdale’s UAE website from mid-August.

“We are thrilled to collaborate with Bloomingdales Dubai to launch this creative, innovative and environmentally-focused initiative, which aims to raise awareness on the importance of preserving the mangrove ecosystem and increase the forest space that these trees occupies,” Sheikha Shamma bint Sultan bin Khalifa Al Nahyan, Co-founder of Mangroves 4 Mankind, said.

“Our hope is that the Paint It Green campaign will encourage local artists to take inspiration from the natural and the unique beauty of the mangroves around us and share their creations with the world, while playing an active role in the preservation of our environment.”

All proceeds from the sale of eight artworks on showcase will contribute to supporting local artists and the mangrove reforestation efforts organized by M4M, with a profound emphasis on the latter.

“This campaign aims to raise funds for a mangrove reforestation project that we have in the pipeline, by also supporting our community of world class local artists in the UAE. The initiative is a reminder of how artists, and those who appreciate the arts, are and will always be the drivers of real change,” Ahlam Bolooki, co-founder of Mangroves 4 Mankind, said.
