To celebrate Harper’s Bazaar’s retrospective at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs, we reimagine one of our most iconic cover stories of all time – Richard Avedon’s February 1955 spread, published 65 years ago this month

An Ode To Sisterhood: Reimagining Richard Avedon's Iconic 1955 Bazaar Cover

As Paris’ newly renovated Musée des Arts Décoratifs gears up for the opening of First in Fashion, the exhibition celebrating the long and rich history of Harper’s Bazaar, we felt it only fitting to pay personal tribute to our pioneering publication by recreating one of our most-beloved spreads lensed by the iconic Richard Avedon.

The 1955 cover saw Carmel Snow and Diana VreelandBazaar’s Editor in Chief and Fashion Director, respectively – dress models Dovima and Sunny Harnett in impeccably tailored, tweed Handmacher skirt suits. The result? The high fashion meets united sisterhood that we still very much stand and strive for today.

In fact, Harper’s Bazaar was always instrumental in pioneering the suffrage movement, with inaugural editor, Mary Louise Booth, extremely active in fighting for women’s rights. But the spearheading didn’t end there; the fashion editorials always pushed boundaries, breaking new ground in showcasing the fresh, the new and the dynamic. A wonderful heritage to follow in the footsteps of.
