Chanel Presents A Very Punk Rock A/W 2020-2021 Haute Couture Collection

Inspired by Karl Lagerfeld, the collection screams eccentric sophistication, reflecting an explosion of pent-up energy and creativity

The French luxury Maison has been distinguished by its sophisticated and classic designs for decades, but this year creative director Virginie Viard took an ‘unconventional’ approach when creating Chanel’s A/W 2020-2021 Haute Couture collection.

“I was thinking about a punk princess coming out of ‘Le Palace’ at dawn,” reveals the designer, paying homage to the house’s former creative director.

“With a taffeta dress, big hair, feathers and lots of jewellery. This collection is more inspired by Karl Lagerfeld than Gabrielle Chanel. Karl would go to ‘Le Palace’ he would accompany these very sophisticated and very dressed up women, who were very eccentric too,” she added.

The thirty looks of the Haute Couture collection showcased a multitude of black and grey tones, brought to life with hints of pink and bursts of energy.

Painted laces, bolero jackets, and a new spin on the classic Chanel tweed jacket can be seen throughout the life, glorifying overarching themes of ultra-rock romanticism.
