The A-List Are Obsessed With This Camel-Hair Max Mara Coat

And it’s about to arrive in the UAE

The aptly named ‘Teddy’ coat from Max Mara is every inch as huggable as its namesake. As seen on celebrities like Kim Kardashian West, Rita Ora and Bazaar’s global fashion director, Carine Roitfeld, the design is an homage to a vintage Max Mara style from the 80s. The label’s creative director Ian Griffiths was inspired by the use of plush long pile fabrics in noble fibres that were used to create the original design, a technique that was originally developed in German mills to making high end childrens’ toys.

After discovering that this technique was no longer used and it would be impossible to recreate as many of the mills has closed down, Griffiths and his team worked with an Italian supplier to create a fabric that was as close as possible to the original. By redevelop the technology, the atelier were able to produce a unique faux fur of pure camel hair on a base of silk, perfectly capturing the original look, and most importantly, feel.

“Every few years we feel the need to present a collection that is just about Max Mara, our brand values and our unique history,” commented Griffith on his choice to visit archival techniques for this collection. Paired with top-to-toe neutrals as seen at their runway show or thrown over an all-black ensemble a la Rita Ora and Kim Kardashian-West, this multi-tasking piece is set to be a classic winter wardrobe staple.

The Max Mara ‘Teddy’ coat will be available in UAE stores later this month.
