Off-White’s New “It” Bag Won’t Let You Carry Anything In It

The Meteor Bag is literally full of holes

The trend for impractical It bags continues with the debut of Off-White’s new Meteor bag. The top handle bag which debuted at the brand’s Spring-Summer 2020 fashion show in Paris last week comes punctured with large, perfectly circular holes, designed to make it look like it was hit by a meteor shower which renders it totally unfunctional as far as bags go. Anything you try to put in the bag will simply fall right out – and this was intentional according to a statement made by Off-White. Models were seen strutting the runway with their arm going through the bag’s holes (as you do), wearing it like an arm accessory.

The conversation-starting bag made Jacquemus’ F/W19 Mini Chiquito bag look practical as, despite its minute capacity, the Chiquito atleast can carry your credit card and lipstick. If Virgil Abloh was looking to make a statement with the Meteor bag, he certainly nailed the strategy on head as it has already become one of the most talked about accessories from fashion week. The statement bag is already available for purchase at select Off-White stores around the world and despite its lack of functionality, still retail for 6,100Dhs.
