Just a couple weeks ago, 21-year-old Kylie Jenner was recognised by Forbes as the youngest ever self-made billionaire, thanks to the success of her beauty brand Kylie Cosmetics (you may have heard of it...). Whatever your opinion on the matter and what exactly defines "self-made", there's no denying that Kylie has done her part in elevating the profiles of up-and-coming Emirati labels - which is certainly something to applaud.
In a mysterious, monochromatic photoshoot for London-based Emirati designer Ahmed Khyeli last week, Kylie had the internet buzzing over a black minidress complete with a high-drama train and layered collar from the brand's spring/summer 2019 collection. The look is so over-the-top you can't determine the model's identity until you swipe right and find Kylie sporting a windswept, tousled up-do. Jenner's look is styled with a pair of simple black Louboutins.
Just a few days after Jenner's shoot for Khyeli, Kylie further casually showed off another Emirati design when she was photographed with her sisters sporting a burnt-orange bag by Dubai-based designer, L'Afshar.
Kylie's sister Kendall is also a fan of the brand, spotted in October wearing the 'Purple Croc Ida' bag as she sat courtside at a Lakers game - a subtle nod to her favourite team (whose team colours are purple and yellow). Beyoncé was seen carrying the same purple bag last month, and celebs including Bella Hadid, Alicia Keys, and Victoria's Secret Model Rosie Huntington-Whitely have also been photographed with a L'Afshar bag in hand.
Emirati label Khyeli seems to be another label of the moment amongst celebs, as it was only last week when we saw Lady Gaga wearing the London-based designer - twice! Appearing in the same collection as Kylie, Gaga chose a beaded and embroidered ensemble for her appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, and a statement all-black coat with added shoulder pads for her outing in LA, making the singer firmly a part of the brands growing celebrity fan-base.
Props to Kylie to giving these amazing local designers a place in her wardrobe.
