Virginie Viard Steps Down As Chanel’s Artistic Director
The luxury brand is yet to announce who will be replacing the creative
Virginie Viard will be departing from her five year role as Artistic Director at Chanel after thirty years of being part of the French fashion house.
Virginie was known as Karl Lagerfeld’s most trusted design partner and assumed the role of creative head following his passing in 2016.
In an official statement, Chanel was quoted as saying that they “confirm the departure of Virginie Viard after a rich collaboration of five years as artistic director of fashion collections, during which she was able to renew the codes of the house while respecting the creative heritage of Chanel, and almost thirty years within the house.”

The company expressed gratitude for her outstanding contributions to Chanel’s fashion, innovation, and vibrancy. They also mentioned that details about the new creative team would be announced soon.
During her time at the brand, Virginie strived to uphold Karl’s design vision while bringing in her youthful perspective, introducing styles that appealed to a modern audience with a taste for both playful and practical fashion.

The surprise news of Virginie’s departure has left those in the industry asking who will replace her.
According to reports, there are rumours swirling that French couturier Hedi Slimane may be assuming the role, however, Chanel is yet to confirm any news.
