HBA: Which timepiece are you wearing?
SS: A Cartier Tank Anglaise in 18-karat white gold and diamonds. It was a gift from my parents when I opened my art advisory business in 2012.

HBA: Why this watch?
SS: My mother has always been a style icon to me, and I think she chose this model knowing that my own ultimate style signature is the timeless elegance that is synonymous with the Cartier Tank.

HBA: Why do you collect watches?
SS: I’m fascinated by horology. I always follow the latest watch launches at SIHH each year in Geneva and love how much more sophisticated the ladies timepiece market is becoming. I also collect both men’s and women’s vintage pieces, which can make fantastic gifts as well. One of the best presents I ever bought was a 1939 Patek Philippe wristwatch from Christie’s Geneva for my father.

HBA: What other timepieces are in your 'watch wardrobe'?
SS: I own timepieces by many of the major fine watch Maisons, including Bulgari, Rolex, Patek Philippe, Breguet, and more models by Cartier. One of my other favourites is my Rolex Oyster Perpetual Datejust from 1977 – it’s a man’s watch but I just love the size and design.

HBA: Has your taste changed since you first started collecting watches?
SS: My taste has stayed the same, but I now have a much more profound knowledge of the mechanics behind fine watchmaking. I learn as much as I can about them through the annual shows and on the auction circuit. No trip to Sotheby’s or Christie’s is the same without visiting my friends in the watch departments!

HBA: Do you wear different watches to certain occasions?
SS: Not really. I tend to go through favourites and will wear them from morning meetings through to dinner or evening events. However, I always seem to end up going back to my Cartier Tank. It’s such a classic.

HBA: What’s next on your watch 'wish list'?
SS: I’m torn between a vintage Cartier Must de 21 in stainless steel and 18-karat yellow gold, and the latest Panthère de Cartier triple-bracelet watch just launched at this year’s SIHH. I’m still trying to make a decision!
