9 Heeramandi Outfits That Took Our Breath Away
With the release of Bhansali’s new series Heeramandi out today, Bazaar Arabia shares our favourite looks from this cinematic masterpiece
Sanjay’s Leela Bhansali’s latest creation, now streaming on Netflix, transports viewers to the enchanting world of Heeramandi. You can expect to be taken to a realm where courtesans preside amidst a backdrop of pre-independence India. Imagine Game of Thrones met the grace and beauty of Lahore, and you’ll get the idea.
What’s interesting about this no-doubt iconic series, is that it captures the essence of a fading era, where courtesans coexist with their impending obsoleteness, and find themselves swept up in the whirlpool of India’s freedom movement.
Nevertheless, though there is much to say about this poignant narrative, the costumes take centre stage. Blending French and English prints with traditional Indian textiles like brocades, phulkari’s, and jamewar shawls, here are nine looks from the series that had us swooning, to say the least:

The first scene sets the bar high, with an ivory printed ensemble adorned with multicoloured accents. From intricate henna to stunning headpieces, when coupled with the simply breath-taking setting, every element of this picturisation radiates sheer beauty.

These co-ordinated amber outfits were definitely a fashion highlight of the series. There’s something so striking, and yet so gentle about this look. From the way the light reflects down onto the women, to the subtle tones of red, gold and blue throughout their attires, the whole scene was a fashion masterpiece.

A brocade lehenga skirt commands attention, and attention it achieved when its beauty and elegance were accentuated by the eloquent movements of Aditi Rao Hydari’s dance.

This outfit screams colonial chic. The paisley printed white and silver saree is a sophisticated nod to the colonial influences of the series.

This whole scene exuded scarlet splendour. The blood-red Anarkali suit, worn by Bibbojaan (Aditi Rao Hydari) was embellished with gold embroidery and complimented by an exquisite display of antique gold jewellery.

Mauve and dusky hues converged in this beautiful ensemble. It was a synchronised quintet that truly captured the grand essence and camaraderie of Heeramandi.

Richa Chada in royal blue is officially our new obsession. This regal outfit, with its flowered head-piece and glamorous jewellery was magnificent.

Sonakshi Sinha dazzled in this traditional saree, adorned with delicate embellishments, and earning a well-deserved spot on our list of favourites.

If this modern take on the traditional saree look doesn’t scream power women, then we don’t know what does.
With all outfits designed by the incredible Rimple and Harpreet, a duo known for their eclectic and opulent clothing, these outfits perfectly capture the essence of Heeramandi’s grandeur, transporting viewers into a world where every stich, every embellishment, and every movement tells a tale of opulence, passion, and strength.
