Artist Alymamah Rashed On Partnering With Piaget For Art Dubai
Kuwaiti artist Alymamah Rashed reimagined Piaget’s Play of Shapes collection through a surreal, celestial painting that transforms the trapeze-shaped watch into a radiant sun encircled by vibrant, flowing figures
At this year’s Art Dubai, Swiss luxury watchmaker Piaget unveiled a radiant collaboration with Kuwaiti visual artist Alymamah Rashed, an artistic union that brought the Maison’s Play of Shapes collection to life through surrealist storytelling and poetic form. Known for her emotional, fluid compositions, Rashed translated Piaget’s bold craftsmanship into a deeply personal visual world, where rhythm, identity, and light intertwined on canvas.

The centrepiece of the collaboration was Rashed’s painting, “Your Love Moves Around My Trapeze Sun (Will You Hold Our Glistening Light?)”. Drawing inspiration from the trapeze-shaped dial of Piaget’s Sixtie Jewellery Watch Collection, the artist reimagined the geometric silhouette as a golden sun; radiant, expansive, and alive with movement. Through this symbolic transformation, Rashed interpreted the spirit of Piaget as a metaphor for the eternal dance of time and self.

Rashed’s practice often centres around what she calls “bodified spirits”—figures that express the emotional and spiritual landscapes of identity through surreal, non-repeating forms. Her work merges local botanical elements, everyday objects, and regional folklore with a distinctly contemporary sensibility. This collaboration with Piaget, she noted, felt like a natural extension of her creative ethos. “Piaget’s collection celebrates fluctuation, eternal movement, and expansion through form,” she explained. “These themes naturally exist within my practice, and I was allowed to converse with Piaget’s rich history and dress my ‘bodified’ spirits through their multidimensional jewels, craftsmanship, and use of colour.”

The resulting painting unfolded as a celestial tableau. The trapeze-shaped sun, painted in gold leaf and warm yellow tones, served as the composition’s luminous centre. Around it swirled deep blue figures, born from a singular blue atom, their movements mirroring the cyclical rhythm of life and time. Rashed’s use of shimmering pigments—lapis, gold mica, and raw mineral colours—echoed the detail and opulence of Piaget’s designs. Eyes, a signature motif in her work, appeared throughout the piece, inviting viewers into the narrative and transforming them into part of its rhythmic orbit.

While the colour palette remained true to her signature style, Rashed approached the composition in a new way, guided by Piaget’s visual codes. “I wanted to take their craftsmanship and embed that attention to detail by mixing my paint using raw pigments and gold leaf techniques,” she said. “I also wanted to ‘bodify’ the spirit of Piaget—because within my practice, each work attempts to give the spirit a human form that does not repeat itself. This evokes a feeling of an eternal birth.”
Though ambitious in scale and vision, the collaboration unfolded smoothly. Rashed described the process as “an effortless exchange,” where conceptual alignment between artist and brand fostered an organic creative flow. Together, they explored different directions before arriving at a unified expression of their shared values: elegance, movement, and transformation.

Now, with Art Dubai behind her, Rashed’s painting remains as a lasting testament to this meeting of worlds. It not only celebrates Piaget’s legacy of craftsmanship and design—it reimagines it through a deeply human lens. The artwork stands as a lyrical expression of presence, shaped by light, and moved by love.
For Rashed, the act of creating is one of liberation. Her hope is always that viewers, regardless of identity, can find themselves reflected in her work. “Art is a form of freedom,” she said. “I create my work to liberate you and me. I always hope that any person, regardless of their gender, race, and background, would enter into my work and leave it with a gift of remembrance.”
In capturing Piaget’s essence through her distinctive lens, Alymamah Rashed offered more than a tribute—she created a new story of time, transformation, and spirit, rendered in gold and shadow, always in motion.
