Algerian-French Actress Lyna Khoudri To Star In A New “Haute Couture” Film

Directed by Sylvie Ohayon, the story will follow an experienced seamstress and her unlikely apprentice, set in the ateliers of a legendary French fashion house

Rising star Lyna Khoudri reveals her appeal for fashion and design again in her new role as one of the two lead characters in Sylvie Ohayon’s “Haute Couture,” a film that has us here at Bazaar completely captivated weeks before its release date.

The French-Algerian actress first gained international attention following her appearance in Mounia Meddour’s Papicha released in 2019 – a story about a young Algerian designer who is willing to do just about anything to show her first collection amidst of the country’s tormented Black Decade (Décennie Noire).

Next up? A starring role in Haute Couture, a new film due to premiere on November 10. 51-year-old writer and director Sylvie Ohayon cast Khoudri in the part of a young woman, who unexpectedly takes on an apprenticeship at one of the world’s most prestigious fashion houses: Christian Dior.

Throughout the two-minute trailer, the audience catches a glimpse of the plot, a taste of what to expect from Haute Couture. The storyline is centred around Esther (played by Nathalie Baye), head seamstress of the luxury label, who is preparing for her last collection before retiring.

Unfortunately (or, perhaps, fortunately) Esther’s bag is stolen in the metro by Jade (played by Lyna Khoudri), a young woman who, overcome by guilt, eventually decides to return the belongings back to the experienced dressmaker. Following this incident Esther decides, against all odds, to take the defiant girl under her wing, passing on her craft and knowledge to the young rebel.
