Industry Insiders Mourn The Death Of Virgil Abloh

From Bella Hadid’s heartfelt Instagram post to Drake’s emotional message, celebrities share their condolences for the American fashion designer

The passing of Louis Vuitton’s artistic director and Off-White founder, Virgil Abloh, has left a deep void within the fashion industry. The news came in through a heartbreaking Instagram post from the designer’s verified account that stated, “We are devastated to announce the passing of our beloved Virgil Abloh, a fiercely devoted father, husband, son, brother, and friend.” The caption also mentioned that the famous American designer and entrepreneur had been battling a rare form of cancer for two years. 

Industry insiders and friends of the designer have been saddened by Abloh’s death and have been sharing their condolences online. Here Bazaar shares some of the heartfelt posts. ​​

Alessandro Michele

In a recent Instagram post, Gucci’s creative director, Alessandro Michele, paid his respects to the late designer. “May your kindess illuminate the world of angels. Until we meet again,” Michele wrote.

Kanye West

A close friend of the designer, Kanye West, dedicated his latest Sunday Service solely in remembrance of him. The American rapper wrote on his website, “In loving memory of Virgil Abloh, the creative director of Donda.” The message remained online even after the live stream was over.

Bella Hadid

A close friend of Virgil Abloh and supermodel, Bella Hadid, posted a series of pictures on Instagram and wrote, “I’m at a loss .. He was someone to everyone.” She went on to write, “…even when the world felt sad he brought laughter and colour and beauty.”

J.W. Anderson

The creative director and founder of J.W Anderson posted a heartfelt Instagram Story in honour of the designer. He wrote, “@VirgilAbloh had a extraordinary ability to apply creativity and imaginative thinking to this world.”

Drake

The rapper, who was Abloh’s close friend and frequent collaborator on multiple projects, also paid his respects by saying, “My plan is to touch the sky 1000 more times for you…love you eternally brother?thank you for everything.”

Hailey Bieber

The twenty-five-year-old American model shared an emotional message on Instagram dedicated to Virgil Abloh who designed her wedding dress. She wrote, “I will never be able to fully express how grateful I am to have known him and worked with him, from walking on his runways to having him design my wedding dress and all the other amazing moments in between, I felt he was always rooting for me.”

Kim Jones

The Artistic Director of Dior men also mourned the late designer and wrote in an Instagram post, “So sad to hear about the passing of dear Virgil one of the kindest people you could meet , […] my thoughts to Shannon and the children and the rest of his family ???”

Amina Muaddi

The famous designer posted her tribute to the designer through a series of Instagram posts. In one of them, she mentions, “I love you Virg. I sat in shock for the past hours because we spoke yesterday. I simply can’t use the past tense to describe you. Extraordinary spirits like yours rarely bless this Earth. A man with a mission who gave hope, dreams and tools to succeed to an entire new generation.”

South Korean boy band and ambassadors for Louis Vuitton also mourned the passing of the creative force. In a recent tweet, they wrote, “RIP Virgil Abloh , you will be missed. It was an honor to work with you. A true creative genius.”
