Interior Designer Vinita Chaitanya on Her New Carpet Collection And Love For Indian Heritage
Bazaar speaks to the interior designer on her biggest inspiration, proud moments, and her top design picks
I constantly seek inspiration from nature, travel, and my reading materials (I love magazines, fashion and Instagram). I recently collaborated with Jaipur Rugs for a collection called Inde Rose, a first-of-its-kind collection of coordinated silk carpet pairings. It was designed in such a way that the rugs can be used as sophisticated pairs in rooms or in multiple layers, where pattern links to pattern, colour layers on colour and the collection, with its exquisite botanicals, architectural elements and rural craftsmanship, creates endless possibilities.

At this point in my life, I am grateful that I get to equally enjoy the company of my family as well as my personal success. I am most proud of my daughter Diya, and the way she has grown up to be a wonderful human.
My home is my sanctuary, my space to relax. We also have a plantation, which we drive to often to enjoy the slow life.

I love to travel to places which inspire me with their heritage and architecture. In India, I love Rajasthan because of its history, culture, monuments, colours, deserts and wildlife sanctuaries. If India is a unique destination in the world, Rajasthan is what adds the unique flavour to the country. On the other hand, south of India is home to some incredible places that I would love to travel to again and again. I also love travelling to Paris and London.
Design is an important part of my life because I see it everywhere. I believe that we need it in all aspects of our life.

VINITA’S TOP DESIGN PICKS:
1. My Inde Rose collection of silk carpets for Jaipur Rugs is the first time ever that we have designed a collection of coordinated designs for carpets. The colours, textures and craft make me so proud of this made-in-India brand.
2. Vintage Indian jewellery. Inspired by royalty and completely made of precious materials, my Indian jewellery reminds me of our cultural heritage.
3. The repoussé panels made by Vikram Goyal are another marvellous example of our craftsmanship. These are made in brass. I love the scaled-up version of these Champa tree panels, they add an element of luxe to any space.
4. Indian textiles. I believe that our woven textiles, our brocades and our pure zaris (borders) are unbeatable in any part of the world. I am traditional at heart, obviously.
