Mexico City hosted contestants from 130 nations across the globe this week, where the Miss Universe 2024 pageant delivered many memorable fashion moments
This year’s Miss Universe pageant was a delight for the senses, with some unforgettable moments. Miss Universe UAE, Emilia Dobreva participated for the first time, and Miss Bahrain, Shereen Ahmed, won the Voice for Change silver award. Miss Egypt Logina Salah made the Top 30, along with Miss India and Miss Philippines.
When it comes to fashion, the contestants didn’t disappoint – historically the pageant’s ‘more is more’ aesthetic has always delivered plenty of shimmer and sparkle, but for 2024 the glamour factor was greater than ever.
Here, we round up the top fashion moments of this year’s Miss Universe 2024 competition.
The contestants put on a show of silver tones
The 73rd edition of Miss Universe, held in Mexico, welcomed 130 women from around the world, each hoping to be crowned. The competition features various categories, assessing each competitor on her personal statement, in-depth interview, evening gown, and swimwear rounds. In the early stages of the competition, the girls gathered on mass wearing outfits in white and silver stones, each paired with silver knee-high boots.
Miss Mexico embodied movie-starlet glamour
The evening gown round is when the contestants go for all-out glamour, with dresses often elaborately embellished with beads, sequins, rhinestones and feathers. Maria Fernanda Beltran Figueroa, Miss Mexico, stole the show with a blush pink gown and ruffled train, responding to the question “When something bad happens in your life, what gives you the power to keep going?” with grace and poise.
Miss Denmark appears in the evening gown round
Miss Denmark, Victoria Kjaer T, who went on to win the Miss Universe 2024 crown, chose an ice blue gown for the evening dresses event, featuring sheer panelling, a thigh-high split and an opulent train that fluttered like feathers.
Contestants enter the swimwear category
The swimwear round of the competition saw the contestants appear in swimsuits and bikinis, all in varying shades of blue. From cut-out detailing to asymmetric silhouettes, each girl’s swimsuit was individual, with some contestants opting for modest styles.
The national costume round
Miss Denmark proudly wore her national costume, which was crafted by Neftali Jahaziel Espinoza & Stalyn Nuñez, in homage to the Viking goddesses of her heritage.
Miss Universe 2023 prepared to hand over the crown
Sheynnis Palacios of Nicaragua won Miss Universe in 2023, and as is tradition, she attended the 2024 awards to crown the next worthy winner. Sheynnis wore an array of opulent gowns throughout the competition, crafted by couturier Nidal Nouaihed.
Miss Universe 2024 is announced
Miss Denmark, Victoria Kjaer T, awaited with her co-contender Miss Nigeria, Chidimma Adetshina, for the news of which of them would take home the title. Both contestants opted for heavily embellished evening gowns, and Chidimma chose a striking dress crafted in the colours of Nigeria’s national flag.
Miss Universe is crowned
Upon her success in becoming Miss Universe, Miss Denmark was crowned with this year’s crown – crafted by Jewelmer, the crown features a flurry of golden South Sea pearls, the national gem of the Philippines. Named Lumière de l’Infini tiara, the gleaming crown displays a radiant sunburst motif at its heart.
Last year and this year’s Miss Universe unite
Bestowing this year’s crown upon Miss Denmark, Miss Universe 2023 wore her own crown from last year’s competition. Crafted in diamond and sapphires, the ‘Force for Good’ crown was made by Miss Universe’s previous jewellery partner, Lebanese maison Mouawad.
A glittering finale
Celebrating Miss Denmark’s victory, all of the contestants gathered for a scintillating send-off, each competitor’s decadent eveningwear paired with her national sash for the final moments of the competition.
Miss Universe 2024 jets off to Miami
Newly crowned, Victoria boards a private jet to visit Miami, the first stop in her ambassadorial role as Miss Universe. Still clad in her ceremonial sash, Victoria chose a chic blue jumpsuit and tailored coat for the journey ahead.
