Authorities confirmed that the country faced record-breaking downpours recently

Stormy weather with thunder, rain, and hail hit the UAE in the early hours of Tuesday, April 16 with long-term residents of the country wondering if the showers were unprecedented.

UAE authorities have confirmed that the downpours from late Monday through Tuesday night were the heaviest in 75 years, surpassing any recorded precipitation since data collection began in 1949.

The weather bureau recorded the highest rainfall in the Khatm Al Shakla area in Al Ain, reaching 254 mm in less than 24 hrs.

The Emirates encountered numerous challenges due to the severe weather conditions, yet officials and citizens united to prioritise the safety of everyone.

Unstable weather conditions impacted the country from Monday due to an extension of a “low surface pressure”, the NCM reported. Two waves of unstable weather moved across the country on Tuesday.

As for the current weather conditions, partly cloudy skies with little to no chance of rain prevail in Dubai on Wednesday. Showers are expected in the northern and eastern parts of the country, such as Fujairah, Ras Al Khaimah and Umm Al Quwain.

While the downpours caused temperatures to drop in the UAE the mercury is expected to rise back up Thursday onwards.
