Will it Rain in The UAE This Weekend? NCM Forecasts Rainfall in Parts of The Emirates

It’s going to be a cloudy and rainy weekend for UAE residents along with rough seas

Make sure to carry your favourite jackets and raincoats if you head out this weekend as the UAE weather bureau has predicted chilly weather and showers in some parts of the country.

Will it Rain in The UAE This Weekend? NCM Forecasts Rainfall in Parts of The Emirates

According to the National Center of Meteorology (NCM), UAE residents can expect sunny to partly cloudy skies on Saturday, becoming cloudy by night over coastal and northern areas. Showers are potentially expected by early Sunday morning.

The weather on Sunday and Monday is expected to be partly cloudy to cloudy at times with a chance of light to moderate rainfall. It may rain heavier at times over some northern, eastern, and coastal areas, such as Ras Al Khaimah and Fujairah with a decrease in temperatures by Monday especially westward – in Abu Dhabi.

Earlier last week, heavy rain and a hailstorm had struck the country. Bazaar Arabia had spoken to a meteorology expert from the NCM who said that the rain was enhanced by cloud seeding.

Furthermore, foggy conditions are expected on Friday night and early morning on Saturday, so be careful if you’re driving during those hours.

The weather change is expected to occur because “affected by a surface low-pressure system extending from the southwest, accompanied by an extension of an upper air depression, accompanied by a westerly trough with different amounts of clouds flowing from the west at intervals,” a statement released by the NCM read.

If you are planning a beach day over the weekend, you may want to rethink those plans as conditions at sea might get rough at times, the NCM reported.

UAE Weather: Lightning Hits The Burj Khalifa and Other Buildings

Back in October 2023, residents shared videos of the world’s tallest building and other landmarks around Dubai appearing to be struck by lightning during yesterday’s thunderstorms.

How often does the Burj Khalifa get hit by lightning?

Sources report that The Burj Khalifa experiences approximately 10 lightning strikes per year on average, owing to its status as the world’s tallest skyscraper.

To safeguard the building and its occupants, it is equipped with lightning rods that divert lightning strikes away from the structure and guide them safely into the ground.

Additionally, the Burj Khalifa’s construction materials, including concrete and steel, are excellent conductors of electricity, ensuring the swift and secure dissipation of electrical charges into the ground. As a result, the Burj Khalifa remains a remarkably safe structure, even in the presence of thunderstorms, thanks to its lightning rods and other protective measures.
