Needless to say, some were more than a little shocked to hear the news.
Kim and Kroy had always appeared to be one of the happiest couples out of all the husband-and-wife duos on the Bravo franchise, despite the financial issues they had been facing in recent months.
Who is Kroy Biermann?
Kroy Biermann is a former American football player who played as a defensive end and outside linebacker in the National Football League (NFL). He was born on September 12, 1985, in Hardin, Montana, and grew up in a family of athletes.
Kim Zolciak and Kroy Biermann wed in 2011.
Kim Zolciak and Kroy Biermann’s wedding was a much-anticipated event that took place on November 11, 2011, at their Atlanta home. The couple had been dating for a year and a half before Kroy proposed to Kim in October 2011.
Kim was a vision in a Baracci wedding dress that featured a fitted bodice and a flowing tulle skirt. Her hair was styled in loose waves, and she wore a diamond-encrusted tiara. Kroy Biermann, a professional football player, looked dapper in a black tuxedo.
The couple exchanged vows in front of 160 guests, including some of Kim’s former Real Housewives co-stars, such as Nene Leakes, Phaedra Parks, and Cynthia Bailey. The wedding ceremony was officiated by Kim’s longtime friend, the Atlanta-based Pastor, Le’Andria Johnson.
After the ceremony, guests were treated to a lavish reception that featured a 11 layer wedding cake, a live band, and a photo booth.
Kim and Kroy’s wedding was not only a beautiful celebration of their love, but it was also a televised event. The wedding was documented in the spin-off series, Don’t Be Tardy which aired on Bravo. The show chronicled the couple’s journey as they prepared for their big day, including choosing the perfect dress, selecting the wedding venue, and dealing with pre-wedding jitters.
Kroy adopted Kim’s daughters from her previous relationships.
In 2013 Kroy filed to legally adopt Brielle and Ariana. Both girls changed their last name to Biermann.

Why Did Kim Zolciak and Kroy Biermann Break Up?
Yesterday, news broke that Kim had filed for divorce from Kroy after 11 years of marriage. According to documents obtained by TMZ, she lists April 30th as their official separation date. The news of the divorce comes after reports that the couple owe over a million dollars in taxes to the IRS.
A reported source close to the couple told People Magazine that the stress of the situation is what ultimately led to their separation.
At the moment neither Kim nor Kroy have publicly commented on their separation or the divorce filing, meaning we will have to wait to find out as to the reason behind their split.
But one Real Housewife did have something to say about it…
Real Housewives of New York alumna, Bethenny Frankel, took to TikTok to share her thoughts on the announcement of their divorce and the amount of money they reportedly owe in taxes.
“I’ve heard all the rumours about the foreclosure,” she says in the video clip. “And I thought to myself marriage is hard enough. Bringing other people into your life and highlighting it for years on TV – I did it for a short time, and I paid the price and I took it like a champ when i was scrutinized… they go with you when its happy and everything looks great, and they’re with you when it goes down into the abyss…”
Bethenny touches on the pressures couples who go on the show face in order to keep up appearances and live the lavish life — and how it can financially ruin people.
