Friendship Files: Christy Turlington and Naomi Campbell Are The Ultimate BFFs
On this cover, shot by Patrick Demarchelier for the July 1996 issue of Harper’s Bazaar US, we see supermodels Christy Turlington and Naomi Campbell – each powerhouses in their own right and close friends – sharing the spotlight.
As a duo, they project a modern idea of feminine beauty and celebrate kinship. The British catwalk queen has called Christy her “BFF” and “1st roommate ever”, saying she is her “chosen family of 37 years” on Instagram posts showcasing their bond.
Patrick worked almost exclusively for Harper’s Bazaar in the 1990s, during which time he crystallised his sharp, clean aesthetic that neatly highlighted the effortless, minimalist style of fashion during the decade. The Frenchman was also known well beyond the industry sphere as Princess Diana’s personal photographer; his pared-back portraits of her helped to define her public persona as the people’s princess.
