Amal Clooney's first appearance since June was not a subtle one - but then again, the Lebanese-British barrister isn't one to half-commit to anything (see: her awe-inspiring career, wardrobe, husband, and twins). On 6 December she was honoured for her humanitarian work at the United Correspondents Association's 70th-anniversary celebration, where she was named the 2018 Global Citizen of the Year.
"I am here tonight to honour you, the journalists being recognized for your groundbreaking reporting this year," she said in her speech according to People. Not one to shy away from her political stances, adding that the U.S. president, Donal Trump, has "labelled the press in this country the ‘enemy of the people,’” which has had a “chilling effect” on the press worldwide.
The barrister has been involved with the UN since 2013 and in just the past year has spoken out in support of, and donated massive amounts of money to, causes like March For Our Lives.
