After successfully acquiring the Umbrian football club Spoleto, Princess Nourah bint Saad has officially become the first Saudi woman to be president of a sports club.
“Football is a family passion, and Italian football is followed all over the world. This is why I chose to invest in Umbria,” she said at a press conference."
“Spoleto is a small, amateur football organization where it is possible to work with the aim of growing and aiming for promotion,” she adds. “But we cannot fail to consider the value and beauty of the city of Spoleto, which is famous throughout the world.”
Saudi women are certainly starting to make waves in the sporting industry. Yasmeen Al Maimani became the Saudi Arabia’s first female commercial pilot last month, there were a record-breaking number of Arab women at the Special Olympics this year and Aseel Al Hamad made history by becoming the first-ever Saudi female F1 driver.
