The Erdem show is a highlight of a beauty journalist’s London Fashion Week every year and this season was no exception.
Make-up artist Val Garland created three different looks for the show, each using the forthcoming Nars x Erdem Strange Flowers range.
‘We were inspired by the red lip his mother always wore,’ Garland told awaiting press backstage at the National Portrait Gallery. ‘No matter what, she wore a strong red lip – we were also thinking all things aristocratic and inspired by flowers. It’s a 1930s, 1940s vibe with the make-up this year – posh totty goes to the movies!’
The beautiful red powdered pout, created using the new Poison Rose Lip Powder palette, was paired with a glossy, iridescent eye and satin skin – ‘dewy but not shiny’, said Garland.
The skin, created using Nars Radiant Longwear Foundation, Soft Matte Concealer and Soft Velvet Loose Powder, was enhanced by White Phox – a multi-use highlighting pencil from the new collection, and one which leaves a gorgeous bluish purple undertone to a highlight.
‘Our second look is a strong eye, rounded out in a Sarah Moon sort of way,’ said Garland. ‘We’ve bleached some of the girls’ eyebrows so it’s all about the eye. We’ve used a black chubby pencil and a grey one, then used this incredible black lip gloss [At First Sight Vinyl Lip Lacquer, out Fall 2018] on the eyes afterwards. It’s a very film noir eye, paired with gorgeous skin and a little pop of mushroomy pink on the lips.’
The third look starred an aubergine stain on the lips, courtesy of one of the six new sheer lipsticks featured in the Strange Flowers collection, which also includes two eyeshadow palettes and a set of blotting papers.
The floral motif-ed makeup range, which will no doubt be as well received as Erdem’s 2017 collection for H&M, will launch globally on 1 May.
