California Dreamin’: The Hollywood Hills Takes Over Paris in Chanel’s Spring/Summer 2021 Collection
Old Hollywood glamour gets a très chic Chanel makeover…
Grainy images of starlets Rianne Van Rompaey, Mica Argañaraz and Louise de Chevigny– fingers curled around their phone cords as they share the latest gossip, speaks to our social distancing soul. Anticipation for Chanel’s latest fashion show came in the form of petit teasers directed by Inez & Vinoodh. The storied house did not disappoint…

Ever the chameleon, Grand Palais was transformed into the one and only Hollywood sign in the City of Angels–Los Angeles, California.

The cinematic show harkened back to a film noir coloured era, when Marilyn Monroe, Grace Kelly and Katharine Hepburn (who played mademoiselle Chanel in the Tony award winning Broadway show “Coco”) were the ‘It girls’ of the day.
Creative director, Virginie Viard, spared no creative expense when it came to the Chanel girl; she is every bit cool and confident.

Just about every style and silhouette was represented on the runway. Chanel’s quintessential tweed and boxy jackets were ever present. Some standouts include neon-centric design, pleated skirts and hot pink capris–could they really be coming back? The colour palette was lady-like with cotton candy pinks, crème de la crème whites and jet blacks dominating the scene.

In a time when life seems muted by the heavy realities of the pandemic, it’s nice to daydream–even if for all of 12 mins of the Chanel show.
Voila!
