“My favourite quote is from Coco Chanel,” Paria Ghorashi tells us. “Dress shabbily and they remember the dress. Dress impeccably and they remember the woman.” This, she says, is also the best piece of fashion advice she’s ever been given. Having spent 15 years working for leading fashion houses in Scandinavia, where she was born, Paria clearly curated an eye for the beautiful and, when she moved to Dubai, set up her now booming on-demand beauty business, BlowOut&Go. “My ethos for our company is all about increasing the confidence and style of the women in Dubai,” she says.
As a mother to five-year-old Sofia, empowering women now and in the future is something Paria feels passionate about, as is educating women to look beyond social media for styles which suit them individually. Paria herself needs no assistance in this department. Her style is assuredly polished. “I always feel confident in an elegant black dress, accessorised with nude heels,” she says, most recently rocking an Yves Saint Laurent LBD, teamed with Christian Louboutin heels, to a Balmain after-party at Paris Fashion Week.” Paria also describes a black pencil skirt and white shirt by Prada as being amongst her hero pieces, and notes her healthy affection for high-street brands, too. “I am a fan of high street and haute couture, everything from Zara and H&M, to Saint Laurent and Prada.”
Paria goes on to name drop Net-a-Porter and Ounass for her online finds, and confesses to having her eye on a few investment pieces: “I love, love, love the Cinderella-style sequin shoes debuted by Victoria Beckham and Tom Ford” for S/S18. And although her “default colour palette is black” she also plans on adding an injection of colour to her look courtesy of Stella McCartney. “She has done colour so well this season,” she says. As for accessories, it’s Christian Louboutin shoes all day, and all night long. “Any of them and all of them,” she laughs. Well versed in the power of diamonds Paria also confesses to loving statement pieces by “Chanel and Cartier”, while her go-to watch brand is Audemar Piguet. When it comes to sentiment, a family heirloom trumps them all – a five-carat ruby ring passed down from her great grandmother is the most “precious and special” signature piece she owns.
A powerhouse both in style and business, Paria takes note of “a new movement of fashion across the Middle East” that celebrates emerging designers and brands. “Now we simply need to continue to develop to ensure Dubai and the Middle East grow as global fashion centres.” Building on that growth potential, Paria is also taking her brand global this year, she says. “I am a fighter that always believes that dreams plus determination equal success. What you get by achieving your goals is not as important as what you become by achieving your goals.”
