Louvre Abu Dhabi Has Announced Four Exhibitions For Its 2019/2020 Season

There’s an exciting programme in store for the UAE’s culture vultures

Louvre Abu Dhabi’s 2019/2020 season will launch in September and with it, the creative team has announced four new exhibitions that will be keeping our weekends for the foreseeable future.

Designed to explore how the arts have channeled and acted as a witness to society throughout history, the exhibitions will be accompanied by an interactive programme that includes live performances, world-renowned installations, music and poetry.

Rendezvous in Paris: Picasso, Chagall, Modigliani & Co. (1900-1939), in partnership with Centre Pompidou
Discover the Paris of the roaring twenties – a Bohemian hub for artists from across Europe, many of whom left their home countries in search of a place where they could truly express themselves. Presenting more than 80 works exhibited for the first time in the Middle East, pieces by Pablo Picasso, Marc Chagall, Amedeo Modigliani and Sonia Delaunay will be on display for the duration.

Furusiyya: The Art of Chivalry between East and West, in partnership with Musée de Cluny – Musée national du Moyen Âge
Exploring a unique link where furusiyya in the east means chivalry in the west, this exhibition looks at how these distinct practices of combat and knightly values led to a specific social class and culture in the Islamic east and Christian west. Stories of brave heroes, war, loss and love are told through 130 rare artworks – most of which are being seen in the region for the first time.

10,000 Years Of Luxury in partnership with Musée des Arts Décoratifs

Another ground-breaking exhibition in the Middle East, fans can explore the history of luxury through fashion, jewellery, art, furniture and design, looking at the various ways each medium interprets it. From golden furniture fit for royalty to virtuoso objects from the Houses of Christian Dior, Chanel, Cartier, Balenciaga and more, this also explores the prominent role of women in defining luxury, and is one you won’t want to miss.

Charlie Chaplin: When Art Met Cinema, in partnership with Musée d’arts de Nantes
Discover the connection between the great Charlie Chaplin films and the artistic creations of avant-garde artists of the time, including Marc Chagall, Fernand Léger and František Kupka, who are at the centre of modern art movements. Around 100 paintings, drawings, sculptures, photographs, archives and film scenes explore this relationship, each addressed in their own unique way.
