Do IV Drips Work? One Editor Shares Her Thoughts…
This elective treatment might just give you the energy boost you’ll need this month
Do IV drips work? Bazaar Arabia‘s Jessica Michault shares her thoughts…
The world of wellness certainly has quite a panoply of treatments available to target all sorts of different issues. And I have always been a big believer in preventative care, from things as classic as massages and facials to slightly more cutting-edge offerings like cryotherapy. But the idea of intravenous therapy never made it onto my self-care bucket list, until now.
Earlier this year a wicked bout of food poisoning landed me in the emergency room with an IV in each arm replenishing my fluids and getting my potassium levels back up to normal. By the time I was released, I felt more like myself, if not 100 per cent yet. So the thought of topping off my return to health and wellbeing with an elective IV session didn’t seem like such a far-fetched idea anymore.
So… Do IV Drips Work?
I turned to the lovely team at The Spa, located in the Palazzo Versace in Dubai, and their plush IV Bar in the hope that one of their 12 different formulas could do the trick. Each one is a special melange of nutrients, vitamins, electrolytes and antioxidants designed to help with a myriad of pesky ailments like jet lag and post-festivity fatigue, or a quick-fix immune boost for those feeling run down. A 45-minute treatment designed to help restore, replenish and detoxify the body faster than classic remedies like drinking litres of water, taking an oral medication, or sleeping for a full weekend.
The process is extremely straightforward. After filling out a questionnaire, and speaking with a doctor on the phone, a certified nurse prepared the fluids. But those who regularly turn to the IV Bar at The Spa know the best way to enjoy the treatment is to pair it with one of the location’s other treatments. The highly trained staff knows how to work in tandem. So that at the same time that a mixture of say, vitamins, glutathione or magnesium is slowly being dripped into your veins, you can also be getting a massage, or in my case an unforgettable Hyaluron facial.
On a high-tech massage table that was both heated and also could position itself so that my lower back and legs were perfectly supported, the talented Marasol used a combination of hot and cold face wraps, fancy silicon sponge work and more face masks and Hyaluron-infused serums (filled with HY-3 peptides and triple-action hyaluronic acid) than I could count, on my skin. All the while my immune boosting IV drip was simultaneously doing its work.
I appreciated that the nurse came in to check on me twice to make sure that I felt alright and I also appreciated that instead of just applying a mask and letting it sit, Marasol spent that time giving me a highly relaxing head massage, and later, once the IV treatment was over – but there was still time on the clock for the facial – she finished off the session with an arm massage as the final Hyaluron mask penetrated my skin.
Once all was said and done, I unquestionably was more relaxed. But it was later that night, and in particular, the next day that I noted the full effect of the IV drip treatment. I found myself much more energetic, my appetite was back and I felt better rested than I had in weeks.
For those looking for a quick and painless way to attain a sense of wellbeing, an IV drip treatment (with a facial topper) could be just the answer.
