Alessandro Michele’s Debut Collection Of Lipsticks For Gucci Has Just Dropped

Whether you’re into balms, glosses or creamy, matte hues, Gucci’s mammoth 58 lippie shade collection has something for everyone

Hold on to your double G monogrammed hats, ladies. The latest jewel in Gucci’s off beat crown, and your new dressing table staple has landed: Alessandro Michele’s debut make-up line. Kicking off with a drop of 58 shades of lipstick, the new range is characterised by three finishes: soft and glossy, an enhancing balm, and a middle ground sheer, luminous formula, that “imparts a colour on the lips like a memory”. The shades are as varied as the finishes, and the names as eccentric as the brand, with “Penny Beige”, “Penelope Plum” and “Vantine Fuchsia” playing the support to the cast’s principal; “25* Goldie Red”. The pillar-box hue’s dedicated to the “legendary Hollywood character”, while the “25” is tribute to Michele’s lucky number.

The new campaign shows off dental diversity

Michele’s inaugural lipstick boasts a lavender fragrance, and comes packaged in tube’s that would, fittingly, not look out-of-place on the dressing table of a Hollywood starlet’s changing room. While the lipsticks are indeed evocative of silver screen sirens of films past – they are made to be played with by the masses. The collection is underpinned by Michele’s empowering manifesto, that cites make-up as a tool to “exalt flaws and make them part of the language of beauty. Defects should be evidenced and not hidden away”. In laymen’s terms? Michele’s fresh take on beauty encourages make-up as a playful enhancement of your natural features, as opposed to a tool to mask them.

The above ethos is supported by an unconventional yet characteristically wonderful ad campaign. Rocker Dani Millers grin shows off gappy teeth you could slot a dirham through and rouge à lèvres coated lips. The eighties-inspired images are layered with typography that explains the colours are “for the bold, the bright and the beautiful” and reinforce the beauty range’s glamorous yet celebratory humanised spirit.

Not your average beauty campaign…

58 lipsticks may seem as excessive as the glamour the range exudes, but we’re off to buy a bigger make-up bag nonetheless.
