The luxury fashion house is donating thousands of euros to fund scholarships and support Italian healthcare workers

The fashion industry is doing its part to help find a cure for the novel coronavirus and put an end to the pandemic, and one Italian luxury fashion house is taking it a step further.

Bottega Veneta has donated €300,000 (approx Dhs1,195,018) to fund two-year scholarships across Lazio, Veneto and Campania in Italy, and to support Italian medical staff amidst the crisis.

“We recognise that supporting the medical professionals who are saving the lives of others must be our priority during this time, which includes those working tirelessly to tackle the devastating impact of Covid-19 and its enduring effects, through scientific research. With these scholarships we are able to contribute to securing the future of our global health by supporting their admirable and courageous work,” Daniel Lee, creative director of Bottega Veneta, said in a statement.

The donation will be put towards a pneumology researcher in the Department of Cardiac, Thoracic, Vascular Sciences and Public Health at the University of Padua along with two respective scholarships at the Virology Laboratory of the National Institute for Infectious Diseases Lazzaro Spallanzani in Rome as well as the Domenico Cotugno Hospital’s Microbiology and Virology Laboratory in Naples.

“Medical researchers, constantly engaged in the study of new treatments and vaccines, make our country so proud. They are a resource of extraordinary value for humanity as a whole. It is for this reason, we at Bottega Veneta feel a duty to support those on the front line, contributing to the advancement of research,” Leo Rongone, Chief Executive Officer of Bottega Veneta, said.

Other industry leaders who have also joined the fight against the virus include Chanel, Salvatore Ferragamo, Dior and The Armani Group, to name a few.
