Kanye West has declared he will be running for President of the United States in the upcoming 2020 elections this November, as he announced plans to take on president Donald Trump and democratic candidate Joe Biden in the race for presidency.
“We must now realize the promise of America by trusting God, unifying our vision and building our future. I am running for president of the United States,” Kanye stated in a tweet to his 29.4 million followers on July 4.
Surprised? If you’ve been a longtime fan of the rapper-turned-fashion designer you’ll know Kanye has hinted in the past that he was thinking of running as candidate for the 2024 elections. He also made announcements back in 2015 that he was interested in running in 2020, but had yet to confirm anything until yesterday evening.

It also appears as if his wife, reality TV star and trainee-lawyer Kim Kardashian West, is supporting his decision. She shared Kanye's tweet on both her Twitter and Instagram story.
Nonetheless, as he has missed multiple filing deadlines to register as an independent candidate, it is still uncertain if he is serious about running or if it possible for him to run at all.
