UAE Stem Cell Treatment Makes ‘Positive’ Progress In Helping To Cure COVID-19

The UAE is making crucial steps in developing an effective treatment for the novel coronavirus.

Arabian Business reports stem cell treatment for patients suffering from the virus has shown “positive” results, according to Dr. Fatima Al Kaabi, consultant and head of Hematology and Oncology Department at Sheikh Khalifa Medical City, and senior specialist in research related with the stem cell project.

The treatment was administered to 73 individuals who were considered “moderately or severely ill.”

67 percent of patients receiving stem cell therapy for the virus have been cured, with improvements in condition occurring as soon as four days after treatment was administered.

It took seriously ill patients six days to recover after receiving the treatment – a significantly less amount of time when compared to “normal” patients who are admitted to hospital with the virus and spend an average of 22 days in care.

“All the patients who were treated with stem cells, recovered in less than seven days, three times faster than those treated with conventional methods," Dr Al Kaabi said, according to Arabian Business.

While experts around the world are still working on a vaccine it’s reassuring to know the UAE is making strides when developing an effective, life-saving treatment for COVID-19.
