Why did Barbie Ferreira leave Euphoria? Bazaar Arabia shares everything you need to know about why Kat won’t be returning to our screens for Season Three of the HBO drama…

Appearing on Armchair Expert, a podcast by Dax Shepard, Euphoria alum Barbie Ferreira finally spilt the beans on why she left the Emmy-winning series and won’t be a part of the star-studded cast featuring Zendaya, Hunter Schafer, Sydney Sweeney, Alexa Demie, Angus Cloud, Maude Apatow, and others.

Fans of the HBO show first heard of the 26-year-old actor’s departure last year in August when she shared a “teary-eyed goodbye” on her Instagram stories. Playing the role of the charming and fearless Kat Hernandez in the Sam Levinson-directed teen drama, Barbie became a fan-favourite in no time.

Audiences, however, were quick to notice that the actor had a considerably smaller role in the second season of Euphoria compared to her castmates. Kat didn’t seem to be a huge part of the main plotline of the drama series.

As fans were perplexed about her suddenly cut-down role, rumours began swirling on social media that suggested that Barbie didn’t get along with the showrunner, leading her to storm off from the set. However, the model and actor quickly put an end to these rumours in an interview with Insider.

After this rollercoaster ride of an experience, Barbie has come out with the truth of her sudden exit from Euphoria, which she describes as a “mutual decision”.

So… Why did Barbie Ferreira leave Euphoria?

In the hour-and-a-half-long podcast episode, the Nope actor opened up about the trials and tribulations of being a plus-sized actor in Hollywood. “I don’t want to play that,” said Barbie, referring to the clichéd fat best friend character that is a part of every stereotypical television show or film set in high school.

“I don’t think there was a place for [Kat] to go,” she added. “Sam writes for, like, things he relates to,” she concluded, referring to the tortured protagonist of the Zendaya-produced series, season three of which is currently under production with a possible 2024 release date, according to People.

Barbie has other exciting projects lined up for the future including House of Spoils with Succession‘s Arian Moayed and season two of The Afterparty, an American murder mystery TV series which might feature the actor reprising her role as Willow.
